Chess Makes It To His New Forever Home

He's here!  He's here!  My new brother Chess has arrived.

See How Happy I Am
The Shelter office called this morning to tell us that Chess was doing much better and we could go get him.  So I dressed up in my DAWG FAN harness [it is Saturday and time for SEC football]  .  Mom got the other DAWG harness for Chess and off we went.

He was still at the vetty so that's where we went.   When we got there the first thing we saw was a hedgehog!  I thought,   No Way - that thing is not coming home with me.

This is me and daddy waiting patiently for the little guy to arrive!  We waited, and we waited and we waited!!!!!

FINALLY!!!!!  We see him coming!!!

OH NO!!!  He's wearing the dreaded cone!

Daddy has us both - looking a little stunned!

I think Daddy might drop me!  Mom - get  me quick

First walkie

he's a little frightened and his harness is WAY too big -  but he's already showing his support of Daddy's Bulldogs!   Go DAWGS!

Daddy's checking to see if he's okay in there!

He's telling daddy that he hurts too much to pee

So, now that he's made it clear that he is not going to pee we all got in the car and started for home.

Is this my new forever home?

Yes, Chess, this is your new forever home!  You're gonna like it here!

I need to sniff a bit!
Are you okay in there?
We won't hurt you

OK - I think it's all going to be OK

Still checking things out!

Should I eat this?

Really -  I'm not hungry

Now he's sleeping.  Apparently he's been given some GOOD DRUGS.   His little hoo-ha is VERY swollen.  He looks like he still has a pair of brass ones and his little hind legs are raw.

I'm just sitting here keeping a close watch on him in case he needs anything.  But, I think he's just going to sleep the day away.

  4. Checkers, I am so impressed and proud to call you friend. You are already being a very attentive and caring brother. Poor Chess, I am sorry that his privates are so sore and he has to wear that awful cone. Maybe you guys can play games with it, like you can try to toss a ball in there and he can fling it back or something. I will look forward to pupdates. Shih tzus are very nice and that was an excellent choice my friend.

It will take some time for him to be fully recovered and to feel completely at home, right?

  8. Hope the little dude recovers. He looks like a lot like you. Will the humans remember how to tell you apart once the cone of shame is gone?
