HE episode
hi - Checkers Mom, Katie here - Checkers had an HE [hepatic encephalopthy] episode yesterday - we couldn't get him started with lactulose and his gums were very white we took him to UT around midnight - he's back on the antibiotics and they put him on IV last night. I stayed with him because he was so stressed and I just couldn't bear to leave him even tho the students would have happily held him all night...so he slept in my lap in a chair with his IV running. He still hasn't pooped but then he hasn't had anything to eat either.......They agreed to let me bring him home and he is resting comfortably. I will syringe something into him later if he still refuses to eat. I can't figure out what he might have eaten to set off this HE episode unless he got a hold of something at the park on Saturday that I missed. I try to watch him very carefully to make sure he doesn't do that. One of the vet students said I shouldn't be taking him to the dog park! CRAP! what kind of life can the little guy have if he can't get out to play!!!!! When I saw Checkers' doc this morning she agreed that student was full of poo! AND all of this happened on the anniversary of his adoption date! Birthdays and anniversaries are not lucky for this little guy - he got sick the first time just before his first birthday!

We didn't know what that was, so Mom checked it out for us. That is very scary. We hope Checkers is feeling better soon. He is too cute and young for problems like that.
ReplyDeleteOur Dakota had a bad episode last night but she has a lot of medical issues. It is so scary when our loved ones are hurting.
Woos, the OP Pack
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry to hear you are not feeling well Checkers. I hope the vet can make you all better soon. We miss you already! Take care!
Wags & wiggles,
Bijou
OMG Checkers, I hope you feel better real soon. How scarey for all of you. I'm sending good wishes for a speedy recovery your way. We miss you but take all the time you need to feel better.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Wiggles,
Brind'Amour
Checkers I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you get over this and feel all better SOON. Tell your mum you could have picked up anything... anywhere - I do! I'm not a big fan of the dog park. I think it's kind of overwhelming, but that's just me. Lots of dogs seem to like them & do fine. I will be thinking of you and sending good karma your way. GET BETTER SOON! Your friend, Tank
ReplyDeleteCheckers,
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! What a stressful situation for both you and your loving mommy! Extra hugs and licks to you. :-)
Sniffs and licks,
Chase
oh checkers i hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Checkers!
ReplyDeleteHope you're back enjoying life in the park soon.
Checkers
ReplyDeleteWe're all thinking of you. We hope you're feeling a lot better soon. Your mum was great to stay with you all night but we can understand totally why she would - we would do the very same. There must be nothing more scary for a dog. Clive had a eye check-up this morning and tried to run away down the road to avoid the vet - something he would never normally do!
Hope you're on the mend now!
with best wishes from
the little man's mum and all the family
Hi again!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that I left you some awards on my bloggie!
Sniffs and licks,
Chase

ReplyDeleteMY BABY!!! Are you OK? Please message me as soon as you can.
ReplyDeleteBig licks to you

Hello Checkers' Mom,
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to the vet student. Why?? Because the person is still "students" status and has a LOT and LOT needed to learn. The vet and you are right. People can't confine an adorable pooches like prisoner. We need to have fun. ^_^
Hugs & Kisses to U and Checkers also.
